How does RISC Group's data security protect your information from prying eyes?
Encryption and Password Protection
Data security is essential! You need to protect your data against outsiders and against unauthorised internal access.
Data security is not optional, it is essential. You need to protect your information against outsiders and unauthorised internal access. To ensure your data is protected, RISC Group stores it at two geographically state data centres in the UK. Encryption and password protection guarantee the highest levels of data protection.
Encryption
Encryption is a tool which converts data into an unreadable format to prevent unauthorised viewing access using a unique "key", which is chosen by you when your account is set up. RISC Group's backup service uses a combination of Blowfish 448 encryption and SSL secure data transmission to ensure the safety of your data.
Password Protection
RISC Backup services offer an additional level of security via client password protection. The use of optional password protection, in addition to encrypted data, ensures your information is secure and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the account holder. If a laptop is stolen or a desktop PC is left unattended, you don't want anyone with physical access to be able to restore and of the data that was previously backed up.
This protection gives you the flexibility to select a private account password (which is distinct to the encryption key). This password must be entered to restore backed up data. So, even if someone has unauthorised access to a user's PC they cannot restore backed up data. If a PC is stolen or accessed by unauthorised personnel, a full or partial restoration of data is impossible.
Preventing unauthorised access and removing the hacker threat
RISC Group’s secure off site backup encrypts all data before it leaves your PC, so that it travels across the network to our secure data centres in an unreadable format.
The data backup uses a secure SSL tunnel to transfer your encrypted data to our data centres, to prevent any viewing, capturing or tampering. The software does not create an opening for incoming connections; outgoing connections can be limited to specific ports at specific IP addresses.
Firewall Compatibility
Our remote backup service is compatible with all corporate firewall systems, including SOCKS and proxy servers. Connections are only initiated by clients from within the corporate network. Our data centres never attempt to connect to a client and thus there is no need to provide an opening in the firewall that would allow external access to your network.
